Beauty Review: Foreo Luna Play

I’ve been using the full size Foreo Luna for awhile now; I like using it and I find that with consistent use, my skin looks better, brighter and appears to have less visible pores. However, I’m also very lazy and always forget to use it regularly; I only really remember to use it when there’s a big event coming up and I want to look my best. It’s quite an expensive tool, and that’s made worse when I don’t use it often.

Since I forgot to bring along my Luna when I moved to Belgium, I had to grab this little Foreo Luna Play when I chanced upon it. The Luna Play is only US$39, a fraction of the cost, and claims to be good for 100 uses; that seems like good value for the money, especially if you don’t have the money to buy the full size or don’t want to shell out about US$150 for something that you know you won’t be using consistently.

According to Foreo, “Though small in size, the LUNA play facial-cleansing brush is big on innovation… the LUNA play is a fun and affordable intro to the amazing skincare benefits that come from T-Sonic cleansing. Every LUNA play face brush provides up to 100 full cleansing routines and is non rechargeable.” It’s supposed to be good enough for a 1-minute face cleansing, twice a day, for 6 weeks.

I have to admit that I got sucked into this partly because it looks oh so adorable. It’s tiny but still quite comfortable to hold while moving across the face. It’s a compact sonic face brush that’s about the size of a cotton round pad, with silicone bristles that are hygienic and dries very quickly. Despite the size, it does work similarly to the full size Luna in terms of effectiveness; the difference is the slight extra effort to move a tiny device over the face.

However, the biggest downside – it is not chargeable. The 100 uses? That’s bullshit. I used this for 1 minute once a day, and it barely lasted me 2 weeks. I’m honestly very upset with it because that’s way less than 100 uses. There’s no way to tell how many uses are left in the device when you first buy it so you can’t prove that you’ve bought one without battery. That means I’ve used it about 10 times at the cost of US$39.

Bottom line? No, no, no. If you really want to try this, go for the full size or one that can be recharged. This was totally not worth it; the pay per use is just too expensive, especially if you get your hands on one that has no battery to begin with!
