May Lippy Review: Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Red Carpet Red

The Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks (and many other items from the brand to be honest) have been on my radar ever since the brand launched but because it’s so expensive I’ve been waiting to go in-store to check them out. I’m actually not the biggest fan of Charlotte Tilbury the makeup artist because her over-dramatic act, but it works for her branding and her products looks a lot more beautiful and classy than the message she brings across.

This Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Red Carpet Red costs Β£24 for 3.5g of product. I think that’s quite expensive, but reasonable in the luxury and high end category. It’s beautifully packaged in a rose gold bullet tube with the logo on the top of the bullet; the bullet is in turn packaged in a dark maroon sturdy paper box.

Fresh out of the packaging, the lipsticks come with a square angled tip that is meant to mimic the shape of a lip brush for precision application. I find it really works at creating very clean lines even without using a lip brush. The square angle keeps its shape for a while if you use it straight from the bullet but if you use other tools then it may mis-shape it.

Red Carpet Red is described as a true ruby red and I personally couldn’t find a better description for it. I would say it has very high colour payoff – it’s pretty much opaque with just one application but I usually put one layer on, blot, followed by another to give it better lasting power. This gives a very Hollywood red carpet vibe, which is probably why it’s called “Red Carpet Red”! I find it a very flattering shade for my yellow-undertone skin; it sort of brightens my face and I instantly look and feel more glamorous than I truly am.

Being part of the “Matte Revolution” line, the finish is matte. The texture is very creamy and almost, but doesn’t, make the formula less matte. There’s no shine and no sparkle, but somehow it looks very brightening. It’s really smooth and applied evenly. This feels very creamy and comfortable for the first couple hours of wear but it does get a little dry afterwards. This lasts about 4 to 6 hours on me, and left behind a stain.

I think this would easily be one of the top 3 favourite red lipsticks and is one that I would use for a special event. I really like the colour and it’s very comfortable for a matte lipstick, plus its packaging is so pretty and looks good if you have to whip it out of your bag! It’s not cheap, but I think it is worth it and I’m definitely looking to expand my collection!
