Beauty Empties: 1 – 31 March 2018

Another month flew by and now we are a quarter-way into 2018. March was a really busy month – with a number of birthdays in my family so that meant many celebrations, a lot of work-related meetings, and a short weekend beach vacation. But all the partying and busy schedule is taking a little toll on my body and I’m entering April feeling rather ill and worse for wear so I might be slowing down a little until I regain my energy.

I usually do 2 empties post a month because it was easier as there are less items to go through and I didn’t have to keep so many items in my little empties bin, but with all that’s going on this month I didn’t manage to do it mid-month so this is a slightly bigger empties post. Hopefully I can go back to normal in April. Anyway, let’s get started!

1. K Palette Lasting 2Way Eyebrow in 02
I liked the powder end of the brush but the felt tip side needed a lot of getting used to; at the start my brows looked pretty much painted on. It can look really good and natural, but that took me a lot of time to achieve plus a lot of practice. I doubt I will repurchase.

2. Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil
This is pretty much a normal brow pencil but with a flat and slanted edge instead of the usual pencil point. I did enjoy this very much because it was a great colour for my brows, and the slanted edge did make it much faster to apply than a regular pencil but I wouldn’t say that it was goof proof – I find it easier to make errors such as applying too much.

3. Sensodyne Daily Repair Toothpaste
4. Colgate Toothpaste

A couple of toothpastes that I’ve used up. I don’t like Colgate because I find their flavour or taste just too strong but the husband likes it so we usually have a lot lying around at home and I use it when my favourite Sensodyne toothpaste runs out.

5. African Botanics Pure Marula Oil
This feels like a normal body oil – I do find it a little too oily and leave too much oily residue for my liking. I didn’t use it on my face as I already find it too oily on my body.

6. Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm
7. Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm x2

A few cleansing balms – I’m not really into cleansing balms; they can be troublesome and some leaves an oily film that could be harder to remove than the makeup. I find myself liking the Clinique cleansing balm quite a lot – doesn’t leave an oily residue and was really good at removing makeup, but the Omorovicza cleansing balm was less to my liking as it was harder to use with a thicker and harder consistency plus it leaves behind a weird layer.

8. Muji Loose Powder in Pearl Natural
I actually used up a bottle of it a few months back after purchasing it because I forgot to pack a powder on a holiday; I find myself really enjoying it so I made another purchase! To be honest, a large part of it was due to the really small packaging which makes it super convenient to bring along to the gym or work; most powders come in huge bottles so this was really travel friendly and it even has a sifter. The powder itself is also really nice, light and natural. I probably would repurchase at some point again, but for now I think I will just repurpose the packaging with my stack of powders.

9. NYX Butter Lipstick in BLS12 Little Susie
I really loved this when I first got it – I remember using it quite regularly and it was a really pretty colour and felt really comfortable on the lips. Unfortunately I forgot about it and it looks like it’s spoilt with tiny little white specks all through the lipstick so out it goes.

10. Dior Diorskin Nude Tan Healthy Glow Enhancing Powder in 001 Aurora
This powder is so old! But I did use it up, ignoring all expiry dates because I love it. It was one of my favourite powder for the longest time – it gives a slight healthy tan with a glow without any sparkles; I am really pale naturally and this makes me look so much healthier but in a natural way. It’s amazing that it’s lasted this long, but it’s finally gone.

11. Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask
I liked it for the first few uses – I thought my skin did looked clearer and cleaner afterwards – but then it started to dry up which makes the application much harder.

12. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Marine Boosting Mist
13. Caudalie Moisturising Toner
14. Caudalie Beauty Elixir
15. La Roche-Posay Serozinc
16. Nozawa Onsen Kumanotearayu Onsen Hadasui

A large number of mists and toners used up this month. I interchange between my mists and toners regularly instead of sticking with just one so that explains why there are so many used up at the same time. I thought the Tarte and Nozawa Onsen mists didn’t feel that different from spraying normal water. I enjoyed the Caudalie toner and beauty elixir – the essential oils in the beauty elixir takes a little getting used to but I’ve grown to like it; I think Caudalie makes really great skincare products anyway. And I’ve talked about the La Roche-Posay Serozinc in my Post-Indulgence Skincare Routine – this helped kept zits at bay.

17. Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Water
Reviewed this some time ago. This is one of my least favourite cleansing waters so it’s taken me a long time to finally use it up. I don’t understand why the heavy use of fragrance in this and it leaves a layer of something behind on the skin.

18. Makeup Up Store Brush Cleaning Soap
This is hands down my favourite soap for cleaning up my brushes and I’ve repurchased it countless times. It removes all makeup easily; of course it takes a little effort in getting old foundation out of the brushes but this still manages to turn the bristles back to white.

19. Barefoot SOS Face & Body Rescue Cream
I don’t know about you but I have some reservations about putting something with the name “Barefoot” on my face so I’ve only used this on my body. It’s an ok-product.

Finally, we have come to the end of the empties post! I do love going through my empties and thinking about what I’ve thought of certain products and whether I should repurchase, so an empties post is one of my favourite posts to write up, but it takes so long to go through so many products. Ideally I would like to have a running list where I update immediately whenever I’ve used up something while my thoughts are still fresh in my mind, but I never remember to do so.

Have you used anything up? Do you look back at products that you’ve used up?
