Get ready for a series of reviews for the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet – I got a few of these last Christmas when there was a buy-two-get-one-free offer! I know, Christmas was so long ago – I actually found these untouched at the back of my drawer this month while I was packing away all my cold weather items and I had a shock when I realised that it’s already been 5 months since I purchased them – I don’t know where the time has gone!
Anyway, first up for review is the shade 04 Peach Club. The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet looks like a lip gloss but is in fact a liquid lipstick and is meant to have a matte finish.
The packaging is a rounded square plastic tube with a doe foot applicator; the cap is the same shade of the product and the tube itself is also transparent so the actual colour of the lipstick shows through it. This cost about £8.99 each regularly for 6.7ml of product from Boots in London, which is where I got mine from.
The texture is very creamy when first applied and it takes quite a lot of time to dry to a matte finish. I would recommend not rubbing your lips together for a few minutes or until it’s dried down – because I did and as can be seen in the lip swatch that it appears rather patchy. It’s very difficult to get an even application by the lip-rubbing-together method like normal lipsticks, and it will only look worse. I should have also put on another layer for full colour – but it takes too long to dry down and I was too lazy to do it.
Peach Club, from its name, is meant to be a coral shade. On my lips, it’s a rather muted and wearable coral. I’ve seen a lot of other lip swatches and they all seem very strikingly orange or strong coral unlike mine – maybe I’m not putting on enough layers? In my swatch, I only have one thin layer on. That said, my photos don’t actually do it justice – I couldn’t get the lighting to work so my lip swatches are slightly washed out. I would say that the hand swatches are closer to what they look like in real life, and when applied, the colour was just a tad lighter than that on my lips – but nowhere near as striking as photos I’ve seen.
On my lips, I find it to be just a tad drying, but not too uncomfortably so. With some liquid lipsticks, there’s a very strong stickiness but this was fine for me – there is just the slightest bit of stickiness but I could barely feel it once it’s fully dried down. This last for quite a long time on me, considering its rather light shade – about 2 to 4 hours without food.
I really like this shade and I think it’ll look amazing with so many of my summer dresses! The application is a little bit of a headache, but it’s not too bad because of its lighter shade – the patchiness is not that obvious. It’s pretty comfortable to wear and lasts a reasonable amount of time so I don’t have to fuss with reapplication too much. However, I’m also wondering if I have a different batch – many of the swatches I’ve seen for Peach Club is intensely orange whilst mine is a very soft wearable coral, so I’m very confused.
Have you tried this? If so, is yours more of a soft coral or strong orange?
