Unboxing: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2018 – Fair to Medium

I really tried not to put up so many unboxing posts consecutively but I couldn’t stop myself when I received this 2 days ago in the mail – the Beautylish Lucky Bag 2018. To be honest, I wasn’t very sure that I had purchased it – it felt like I had done it in a dream and I really wasn’t expecting it. But I’m seriously happy that I had. I got the Fair to Medium skintone box, although I’m not very sure why they needed a skintone for this box.

This Lucky Bag costs US$75 and Beautylish promised that there would be products worth at least US$150 in them, but I had to pay US$20 for international FedEx shipping. The shipping cost is high but it arrived fast – within a few days of Beautylish shipping it out. There was supposed to be another larger Lucky Bag which costs twice as much at US$150 with products worth at least US$350, but unfortunately that was only available within the US.

1. Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette in Smokey Eye Beauty, US$75
I am so happy that they sent me Smokey Eye! When I saw the packaging peaking out, I was so worried because there are only 2 variations and the other – Beauty Glow – looks very similar to the Seductive Beauty palette that I already own. I do love Charlotte Tilbury’s products and they are expensive so I’m so glad to have received this, even though it’s not my favourite palette layout because the blush in the middle is really difficult to get to.

2. Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Sagittarius, US$18
I’m not a fan of Jeffree Star as a brand ambassador – mainly because of his drama-filled offensive and bitchy attitude – so I’m not that thrilled to have received an item from this brand. I’m also not a fan of the colour – it’s supposed to be a soft nude mauve with a matte finish but it looks more like a zombie dead shade.

3. Skindinavia The Makeup Finishing Spray: Bridal, US$29
I don’t understand why there would be a difference between makeup finishing sprays that are not for bridal and for bridal but I guess this is just part of their marketing trick. I’ve read that Skindinavia’s sprays are similar to Urban Decay’s, and I do love and use Urban Decay’s quite a lot so I’m excited to finally get my hands on these!

4. Natasha Denona Blush Duo palette in #10 Sheer Peachy Nude, US$38
This seems like a repeat product from last year’s box so I’m slightly disappointed because it feels like I’m being given leftovers? But other than that, I’m quite excited to try something from this brand because I haven’t had the chance to. This comes with 2 blush shades – Toutou and Sheer Peachy Nude – and they are very summery and pretty.

5. The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer, US$4.90
I own quite a lot of The Ordinary’s skincare products and have loved them all so I have high hopes for this. However, I don’t usually use primer as I am too lazy so I’m slightly wishing that they had put something else in its place instead.

6. Wayne Goss Brush 15 Fan Brush, US$25
I used to like Wayne Goss back when he didn’t used clickbait titles on his videos and before I saw a video by him where he told viewers not to read the news – which totally turned me off as I don’t understand how someone can encourage ignorance. But my bad impression of his character aside, I do think that his brushes are nice – I have a whole set and the hairs used and craftmanship are really good, so I’m happy to have received this brush.

All in all, I think the contents in the box are rather hit-and-miss. I definitely wasn’t happy with the Jeffree Star item, although I fully accept that it is because of my own personal prejudice and it could turn out to be a great product afterall. In terms of value, it definitely delivered the “over-US$150” promise by Beautylish and it’s nice that the box didn’t artificially inflate the prices of the products inside the box, as a lot of Beauty Boxes do.

I’m happy with receiving the Charlotte Tilbury’s palette and Natasha Denona’s blush duo, even though I wished that they hadn’t put an item that was already in last year’s box – because what if I already owned last year’s? The brush and makeup spray are nice to have around, even though I’m not that excited to have gotten them.

What about you? Did you manage to snag one of these boxes? If so, did you receive the same stuff or did you get something totally different?
