Beauty Review: Fenty Beauty Two Lil Mattemoiselles Plush Matte Lipstick Duo

A really quick review on a mini lipstick set today; if you’ve been reading my blog, you would know that I have a weakness for travel size or mini size beauty items. It’s not too bad a weakness, I suppose, as I get to try a lot of things without having to splash out full price for them or wasting the rest of the item if I don’t like them. Anyway, today’s quick review is on the Fenty Beauty Two Lil Mattemoiselles Plush Matte Lipstick Duo set.

I have to make this post really quick because I haven’t had the time lately to put up a proper decent post, but I have all these wonderful beauty goodies sitting around and I really want to try these lipsticks. I always can’t stop myself from testing them out, and before I know it, they are nearly empty or looking quite worse for wear – so I have an item that’s actually properly tested but not really in a condition to be reviewed anymore.

I got the Fenty Beauty Two Lil Mattemoiselles from Sephora, and they retail for US$19 usually; there’s 2 mini lipsticks that are 1g each. They are quite small but their shiny rose gold light plastic lipstick tube makes them look bigger – there’s about 1cm of lipstick when you turn the whole lipstick up. Both lipsticks are from the permanent range.

Griselda is a deep cool burgundy with a matte finish while Spanked is a dusty rose with a matte finish. This is one of those rare times that I find that the company’s description of the colours is actually spot on. These are quite pigmented, though I would describe them to be medium coverage – two full coats will give you what you see in the tube.

For matte lipsticks, these feel absolutely lightweight and very comfortable. They apply very smoothly and feels rather thin. However, with the comfort, I find that some staying power is lost because there’s quite a bit of slip and thinness to the lipstick which makes it so comfortable in the first place. Griselda lasted longer on my lips, about 4 hours with a slight stain, while Spanked only made it through about 2 to 3 hours with no staining.

Although Fenty Beauty claimed all day color intensity, I wouldn’t really penalise them for not living up to those claims – I have never met a regular lipstick that stayed all day on me, although I wish beauty companies would stop making these ridiculous claims.

I really do like these colours – even Griselda, which is not a colour that I would usually wear but I find myself strangely drawn to it and it’s also a lot more wearable than I expected it to be, perhaps because a lot of plum shows through on my lips. Spanked is a very work-friendly shade, which also makes it rather boring but something that’s useful to have.

All in all, I would recommend this little set if you’ve been looking to try Fenty Beauty’s lipsticks – I love the colours, and I find the formula to be really comfortable for matte lipsticks. The best thing about this set is that it’s from the permanent line so if you love it, you could always repurchase a full size but if you don’t, you haven’t wasted your money on a full size! In my books, that’s a win-win situation.
