Beauty Review: Kat Von D Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Santa Sangre

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Santa Sangre is a limited edition lipstick that was released in May during the brand’s 10-Year Anniversary. I purchased this with the 10 Year Anniversary Eyeshadow Palette, but somehow this lipstick slipped out of the bag and rolled into the back of my shelves and I didn’t notice it until just now when I was clearing out the cupboard. It’s a little late, as it’s sold out in many places, but I thought I’d just run a really quick review because there are other permanent shades in her creme lipstick line.

I purchased this for S$30 at Sephora; there’s 3.4g of product, and it is housed in a limited edition gold plastic casing. The regular creme lipstick line has pretty much the same packaging, except that they are in black. I find the packaging to be rather bulky; because of the patterned cover, it’s got a bigger cdiameter that it needed to have.

Santa Sangre is a true red with a creme finish. The colour was originally one of the most famous shades in Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick line, but now made into a creme lipstick form. As someone who don’t really like the texture of liquid lipsticks and prefer creamy old-school style lipsticks, I was really happy about that.

I find the texture to be creamy, as expected for a creme lipstick, and it is very pigmented. One layer was all I needed for full coverage. Red lipsticks are usually not as forgiving and require a lot more TLC during application but I find this to be very easy to glide on and smoothed out without accentuating any lip lines nor feather outside of the lip lines. I didn’t find a need to use a lip liner with this. It’s very lightweight, and feels barely there. This wore really well on me, through half a day of sipping coffee and sitting at the desk.

I really like this lipstick – it’s a beautiful red, very wearable and is very comfortable on the lips. I wished that I had paid more attention so that this review could have gone up earlier when it’s still available to everyone, but I think the formula is great; I’m definitely looking forward to picking up a few more shades in the permanent line to see if the quality is the same. Have you tried any Kat Von D creme lipsticks and what are your thoughts on them?
