We’re coming awfully close to the end of the May Lippy Reviews – where I review one lip product every week day of the month. Today’s choice for review is the NYX Lingerie in Bedtime Flirt – I picked this up from Boots London for Β£7, which I thought was expensive for something from NYX. Is it just me or has NYX increased their prices tremendously over the years? I remember the days when a blush from NYX only cost USD3.
The brand claims that these to be luxurious weightless liquid lipstick with a plush matte finish. It is available in 12 different color-kissed nude shades. Bedtime Flirt is a mauve nude pink in my opinion; the shade is quite close to my lips but looks better – one of those “my lips but better” shades and is a really pretty everyday colour.
It’s packaged like a lipgloss with a doe foot applicator; the tube is transaprent with the actual colour showing through. I find the doe foot applicator really does a good job at pulling out product from the tube and distributing it on the lips – there’s enough product for a light layer of application. It’s very easy to apply and spread the product with the applicator.
When freshly applied, the consistency of the lipstick is like mousse – it is not sticky or oily at all. My lips do look dry because I’ve been applying a lot of very dry lipsticks over the last few days – I would recommend scrubbing your lips to get rid of dead skin cells before applying this because it does accentuate any flakiness on your lips. But it feels really quite comfortable and just a tiny it drying, definitely not as drying as it looks.
This had decent coverage – it was nearly opaque with one layer, and fully opaque with two. It didn’t last very long for me – about 3 hours without eating, which for me was reasonable given that it is such a light shade. I don’t know how people can get 6 to 8 hours of wear time from their lipsticks because I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one that lasted that long on me. I consider a light shade that manage to stay on past the 3 hours mark as fantastic.
It also doesn’t transfer (or leave behind a mark on a cup) when fully dried. It does have a slight sweet scent which doesn’t really bother me. I’ve heard of people complaining about how hard it was to remove but a little oil-based eye makeup remover worked for me.
I actually really like this as a simple everyday shade. It’s pretty comfortable to wear – no stickiness at all and it dried down really fast. The only problem is that it does make any existing dryness on the lips look more obvious – and I would recommend fixing that with a good lip scrub beforehand. I could see myself wearing it for a little bit of colour to the office if I was working in one. It’s also a really nice nude shade that I would top with a little plumping gloss to make it look “juicier” and sexy/sultry.
