Beauty Empties: 1 – 31 January 2018

It’s that time of the month again – for empties! It’s about time too because I could barely close the box where I keep my empties; I had a sudden realization that it’s already the end of the month when I wondered why the box was so full! It’s just mind-blowing that we are already one month into 2018; it’s been quite a good year but I wish it would slow down a little so I can enjoy it more. Anyway, let’s take a look at what I’ve used up so far this year!

1. Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Conditioner
2. Philip B Light-Weight Deep Conditioning Creme Rinse

A couple of hair conditioners; I managed to get about 2-3 uses out of them. I did enjoy the Aveda conditioner – it’s not too heavy, but Philip B’s felt too heavy for me.

3. Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask
I’ve tried this before and didn’t like it then or now; it’s very thick and heavy, which makes my hair look really flat for a few days after using it.

4. Perfect Water Cleansing Makeup Remover
It’s not my preferred cleansing water – I find it quite heavily perfumed and it left behind a slightly soapy feeling on the skin. I never feel comfortable going without another rinse when I’ve used this, which defeats the purpose of using a cleansing water.

5. Sensodyne Fresh Mint Toothpaste
I love Sensodyne’s toothpaste, although this is not my favourite version.

6. Balmology Exotic Rose Beauty Oil
7. Darphin Rose Aromatic Care
8. Darphin Jasmine Aromatic Care

This month I made an extra effort to use up all the tiny bottles of facial oils that I had lying around. The Balmology rose oil was a little thick and oily with a lot less scent (which may be a good thing for some but I like rose scents), but the Darphin’s rose and jasmine didn’t let me down – they are light and lovely, and really helped hydrate my skin.

9. L’occitane Immortelle Precious Cream
A nice, thick but not too heavy cream; I’ve really been enjoying this. I use it at night and my skin feels comfortably moisturised the next day after sleeping in an air-conditioned room.

10. Eve Lom Cleanser
It feels like I have a never ending supply of these small tubs of Eve Lom cleanser – they appear in every beauty box that I’ve subscribed to. Anyway, I like this when my skin is feeling extremely dry because it feels so luxurious but when my skin is in its usual state, I absolutely hate it because it refuses to be cleaned off.

11. Muji Loose Powder in Pearl Natural
I got this some time ago when I forgot to pack along my powder on a trip to Japan and was so pleasantly surprised when I saw how nice the loose powder was! It’s very lightweight so it does fly everywhere when you open the cap – but there is a nice sifter so it’s not too bad. It’s very natural and so light that you really don’t see a layer of powder on your face.

12. Johnson’s Daily Essentials Extra Sensitive Facial Cleansing Wipes
I don’t know if it’s just my packet, or if this is just a really dry cleansing wipe. It felt like one of those floor wipes that I use for my house which is just that very lightly damp. It’s very difficult to remove any makeup because it’s just not wet enough!

13. Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder
I loved this powder! Unfortunately it is also rather expensive so I will be looking to repurchase this only when I have some reason to reward myself. But’s a really beautiful powder – it sets any liquids without looking powdery at all and looks so natural.

14. Clio Sharp, So Simple Waterproof Pencil Liner
Did a review on this here; I think my opinion on it hasn’t changed – I like how smoothly this goes on but it kept on breaking because it’s too soft and tends to smudge if you don’t keep your eyes closed long enough for it to properly set. But once it’s set, this does last well.

15. Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara
16. Clinique Lash Power Feathering Mascara

Was quite surprised myself to have used them up – actually I’m not too sure if they dried out or are empty. Anyway I didn’t really like the Essence mascara; the wand was too big and just made my lash look clumpy. I really like the Clinique mascara though; I’ve used and loved a lot Clinique’s mascaras because they really stay on and doesn’t smudge, plus they have wonderful small wands that reaches into the inner corners of the eye.

17. Christophe Robin Cleansing Volumizing Paste
18. Mikimoto Cosmetics Moonpearl Cleansing Cream
19. Mikimoto Cosmetics Moonpearl Moisture Rich Lotion II x2
20. Mikimoto Cosmetics Moonpearl Cleansing Cream x2
21. GlamGlow YouthCleanse Daily Exfoliating Cleanser
22. GlamGlow ThirstyCleanse Daily Hydrating Cleanser
23. Dr Brandt Power Dose Vitamin C
24. Dr Brandt Xtend Your Youth Face Cream
25. Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior 2 in 1 Plumping Moisturizer + Serum
26. Charlotte Tilbury Healthy Glow
27. Innisfree Jeju Volanic Color Clay Mask (Hydrating)
28. The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask

A huge ton of samples that I’ve used up in the month. I’m too lazy to run through all of them individually and in any case I don’t think I have used them enough – since they’re all one-use only – to form an informed idea about whether or not I’ve liked them. I always thought that small packs of samples like these are extremely ineffective marketing tools – I rarely run out and buy an item after just one good use; I know that bigger packaging incur a higher cost but I think they have a better chance of converting a customer.

This is a pretty big empties post! I’m back to using up enough products a month to be able to (or rather, have to) split it into 2 posts a month like I used to do before so I will likely start doing that from next month onwards! It’s really hard to put up a post when there are 20-30 items to run through, and it’s also much harder to keep track of what I’ve thought about the products because there are just too many.

I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at my empties! I don’t know if it’s weird but personally I really like looking at what others have used up because I think they really do have a more informed opinion of the products rather than from just a few swatches.

Have you used up anything this month?
